Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic and public speech writer. Feminist Frequency is a web site where you can find videos and other commentary looking at the portrayal of women by pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist media critic from Canada, as well as a blogger. She is the founder and director-executive of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website which explores the portrayals of women in pop media narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the primary focus of her work. She also strives to raise awareness about concerns like the issue of discrimination and harassment of women who are online. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is popular and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was interested in questions of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009 she created her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to create a web series on gender representation in video games and found herself at the center of a harassment online campaign.
