
DeWitt began appearing on stage at the age of 13. When she was 13, Dewitt began appearing on stage. She received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University. The director encouraged her to pursue UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship, as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her part in Three's Company's 1977-1984 run as Janet Wood. This was the first job she had after being cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet also appeared in the episode of The Ropers in 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to be featured in the finale of Three's Company's 1984 season. She also appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Then she ceased acting for a number of years. In June of 1991 she returned to acting with an important role in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. After that she was in the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character based on her voice, voiced by a different actress, was featured in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. The actress was in the episode Cybill and made a brief appearance in Living Single's final episode. The 2000s work of her include television shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
